More strings, more music! Introducing the world's first 15-String Harp Mandolin. This unique design is an extended-range Mandolin. The neck is a standard 8-string mandolin, (G, D, A, E) with a scale length of 352 mm (13.85"). The extended bass arm has seven additional "floating" sub-bass strings tuned, G, A, B, C, D, E, F for a full diatonic G scale. The lowest G sub-bass is one octave below the standard fourth string "G" on the mandolin.
It's all-solid construction. The instrument in this photo is Aromatic Red Cedar. Other options are Sitka Spruce and Western Red Cedar. The back/sides/neck are Black Walnut. Maple is also available. The finger board (12" radius) and bridges are Gaboon Ebony. Bone nut. The custom tailpiece is Walnut, matching the back and sides. The tuners are mini electric guitar. The trim is green abalone shell. The neck has a dual-action truss rod accessible through the sound hole and is bolted to the body from the back making it very easy for adjustments/repairs. The strings are threaded through the tailpiece (see the photo set for the details).
The 15HM is available in right or left hand. I'm posting free Harp Mandolin tabs for inspiration on this page.
